William Barnet (1918 -1992 )

William Barnett was one of three siblings.  All but William were born in Kiev, Russia.  He was born in Philadelphia in 1918 and died in San Francisco, California in November 1992.  He was a professor of painting and drawing at the University of the Arts, formerly Philadelphia College of Art.

Known for modern still life, portraits and figures, Barnett studied at Temple University.

Exhibited: PAFA annuals 1951-68, prizes 1951 & 1955, solo show 1953; Cheltanham Art Center, 1949 (prize); Philadelphia Art Alliance, 1951-55 (solo); Pyramid Club 1951-52; Woodmere Art Gallery, 1955 (prize); Philadelphia Mus. Art, 1958. Awards: DaVinci Medal, 1958; Guggenheim fellowship, 1958. Collections: PAFA; Phila. Mus. Art.
