Jennifer Bartlett (b. 1941)

Contemporary painter Jennifer Bartlett received her M.F.A. from Yale University in 1965. Her first major work, Rhapsody, exhibited in 1976 in New York, is a composition of 987 painted steel panels that combines many stylistic tendencies of the 1970’s, such as minimalism and pattern painting, in a single work. Throughout her career, Bartlett has continued to use a grid pattern and a geometric vocabulary centered on a simple house in her approach to themes of variation and repetition. Bartlett is currently living in New York and exploring space, depth and the process of painting in her recent work.
