Baselitz, German (1938 - )
Georg Baselitz's artistic talents cover a melange of skills
including printmaker, draughtsman, sculptor and painter. However
it is the realm of painter, specifically in a neo-Expressionist
style, where Baselitz flourishes, challenging the conventional
morays of traditional painting by creating energetic upside
down images.
Baselitz's early work, filled with strong sexual
themes, created much controversy while simultaneously elevating
Baselitz's reputation to that of a pioneer of German Expressionism.
By resisting the bond of traditional artistic styles, Baselitz
painted representational forms with a rich color palette in
unique alternative ways. His dynamic works can be seen at numerous
museums including Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany, Tate Gallery,
London and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
