Beardsall (1940 - )
Born in Hereford, grows up in Wales and Yorkshire. Studies at
Sheffield College of Art and Slade School of Fine Arts, London.
Professors: Frank Auerbach, Sir William Coldstream and Anthony
Gross. Establishes Studio Prints, London and in 1969, after
moving to New York, Studio Prints II, New York. Prints as a
masterprinter original Monotypes for Motherwell and Etchings
for Dali. Beginning of the 70´s he decides to concentrate
exclusively on his own creative work. He is rewarded one of
the most famous American Art Awars, the John Simon Gugenheim
Fellowship for developing a new printing process which allows
monotypes on paper and canvas up to a size of 7" x 7".
The Museum of Modern Art New York developes a plexi box-frame
especially for his "3dimensional" work.
Extensive travels to Mexico and Guatemala change his work from
the pure abstract to more figurative motives. The monotype is
used as background. He still works on paper and canvas as well
as experiments with metal and sculptures.
During the 1980´s he grows impatient and tired with New
York´s Art Scene. He moves to Stuttgart, Germany. Being
back in Europe he returns to the seaside where he was influenced
when growing up in Wales. And so the new work reflexes his return
to the places which first made their impression on him, as you
can see by the "Beaches of Europe".
