My great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Benjamin Cox, fought the British in the battle of bunker Hill. The family immigrated west, finally settling with the Mormons in Utah. After two hundred years of pioneer legacy, one of the flock has returned to the east to roost in Brooklyn. The piers of Red Hook provide a daily break from my time in the studio. The Statue of Liberty is a hovering presence over the entire New York bay. For the people who live with the statue in their backyards, she is a daily companion and reminder of the opportunities and responsibilities of freedom."
