Neville Clarke, Jamaican/Canadian (1959 - )

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959, Neville Clarke immigrated to Canada in 1974. An Honours graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design (1983) he participated in OCAD's off-campus programme in Florence, Italy (1983-1984). 

Clarke has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions over the past fifteen years. including a solo exhibition organized jointly by the Art Gallery of Peel. Brampton and Thames Art Gallery, Chatham (Towards a Meaningful Expression), solo exhibitions at the Kathleen Gormley Gallery. Markham, D & E Lake Ltd. Fine Arts, Toronto and Eman Fine Art, Hamilton. He has participated in group exhibitions at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinburg, the Art Gallery of Mississauga, A-Space Gallery, Toronto, the Triangle Gallery, Calgary, and the Nova Scotia Archives, Halifax among others. Clarke has also participated in international exhibitions in Japan, Mexico and the USA.

Clarke has received numerous awards for his work, including the AJ. Casson Medal & Honour Award, the Charles Comfort Medal and the David B. Mime award among others. He has also received grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and Ontario Arts Council. He served as President of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour from 2001-2003 and is the Founder and President of the Society of African Canadian Artists. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections including the Art Gallery of Peel, the City of Toronto Archives, the University of Guelph Art Collection, the Thames Art Gallery, HRH the Prince of Wales and the Arts & Letters Club, Toronto.
