My work is a combination of sculpture and photography in which the sculpture is ephemeral and the photograph is permanent.
The work focuses on the experience of playing with different materials in my studio. The materials are put together as a child would put together building blocks. When I'm satisfied with the result I take several photographs, dismantle the piece, and move on to another. The materials I use are common, which enables additional artistic freedom. This process is similar to sketching, where ideas can be tossed around with little consequence. When I'm successful discovery is made.
the work is documented using digital photography. The editing of the photographs is integral and the digital manipulation allows for greater freedom and immediacy. In the end the work is richly printed photograph with complexities and depth.
