PUBLIC ART
Hammer Lane Underpass @ UP & SPRR (2000)
Smart Walking - Working with project architects, engineers,
landscape architects, and city planners, I developed integrated
artwork for four Class I Bike/Pedestrian paths. Using the talents
& skills of the contractors who would be responsible for
executing my designs, I used brick patterns, exposed aggregate,
colored concrete and concrete stamping to create approximately
1/2 mile of visually stimulating paths. Stockton Art Commission,
California
Reece Studio Theater (1997)
In the Eye of the Beholder - 5’ x 7’ “hybrid
fresco - pietre dure” mural, with three dimensional steel
& ceramic elements. The mural is installed in the reception
area of a newly renovated classical theater, and depicts traditional
comedy & tragedy masks in a non-traditional way.
Reece Studio Theater, Dorston, Germany.
Art in Architecture for Public Buildings (1994)
Your Memory Column - 18’ x 18’ x 18’ cast
concrete plaza sculpture clad with hand made ceramic tile and
surrounded by integrally colored cast concrete pavers.
Oakland Federal Building - General Services Administration
Sacramento Convention Center Expansion Project (1995)
Legend of the Magnolia - 7’ x 90’ ballroom terrace
wall- two & three dimensional “mural”. Traditional
craftsmanship, materials and techniques (cast concrete, hand
made ceramic tile, glass mosaics, and photographically sand-blasted
glass) combine with modern materials and technologies. the work
relies on optical cues & illusions, and allows the viewer
to use their creativity and imagination to develop their own
“Legend”.
Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, California
Reneson Hotel Corporation (1988)
Urban Spring - 55’ Atrium fountain made of concrete clad
with porcelain tile. The fountain provides a seating ledge,
and incorporates landscape and sculptural elements.
Americania Hotel, San Francisco, California
Studio for Technology and the Arts (1995)
The Benchmark - Provided an opportunity for four young artists
to learn about public art, design, materials, craftsmanship,
creativity and the creative process. Working together we designed
and built four functional and permanent integrally colored concrete
benches which act as a “marker” for the studio.
San Francisco Art Commission, California
California State Transit Authority (1987) *
Mirage - Seven rustic terrazzo, computer generated images indicating
the train direction and the station number are inlaid into each
side of the 59th Street station on the Sacramento Lite Rail
System. The number 59 (indicating the station number) morphs
into the image of a bird in flight
(showing the train direction).
