| Ted
Ellis
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana,
Ted Ellis was greatly influenced by his hometown's style and
artistic exuberance. "I prefer to paint subjects that are
representative of many facets of American life. Among my favorites
to paint are portraits, landscapes, and seascapes."
As a self-taught artist, Ted's style is a blend of realism and
impressionism. His artwork is nostalgic and uplifting. From
an outdoor baptism to a lawyer arguing her case before a judge,
Ted's art celebrates the traditional values of African American
culture.
The increasing popularity of his work has resulted in many
private and corporate commissions from Avon Products, Inc.,
the New Orleans Black Tourism Network, the Baton Rouge Black
Pages Directory, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to name
just a few. Ted's work is also exhibited at major colleges and
has been featured on the national television program "Imagination
Island."
In 1986, Ted Ellis left his position as a chemist to pursue
his lifelong dream to draw and paint. Ted has dedicated all
his creative energy and time into his artistic calling. "I
take pride and pleasure in capturing the essence of a particular
subject and manifesting it on canvas, knowing it will last as
an eternal memory."
