He was born February 20, 1934 in the village of Salamanca, Spain.
In 1946, at age twelve, he was admitted into the Escuela de Artes y Officios where he studied drawing, art history and sciences. In 1952 he entered the Real Academia de Bellas Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
Versatile in every medium from ink to oil, Fuentes concentrated on the human form early in his career and became known for his portrayals of biblical characters. He captured the person inside the portrait of his models.
