It is cut in such a way as to almost imply a rough-hewn material, giving
the impression the artist uses a torch
not unlike the cutting hammer and chisel of a stone carver.
The vivid colors are created through variegated layers of tinted lacquer
over the patinaed ground steel. It shimmers
with the iridescence of a bird's plumage - oddly enough loons and aquatic
fowl being a recurrent underlying thee in
the artist's work. The painting on the sculpture brings to mind the
classical Greek rendering of polychromes on
some of their monumental marble sculptures.
