Gilboa (1917 - 1976)
Born 1917 in Sophia, Bulgaria.
The son of one of the first Jewish journalists in Bulgaria.
Gilboa frequently makes sketches and takes photographs of scenes
that interest him. With the aide of a rich and fertile imagination,
he then reconstructs a new composition with a wide and grand
perspective which envelopes a visual and spiritual panorama.
In 1937 Gilboa graduated from the Jewish Teacher's College,
majoring in art. After teaching for a short period, he was married.When
World War II began, he and his wife "bearded in ancient
broken down fishing vessel and entered as illegal immigrants
into Palestine," where they were captured by the British.
He and his wife were members of several Kibbutzim, from 1940
through 1947. He studied art at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere,
from 1952 through 1953, and returned to Israel in 1954, when
he became a member of the Association of Painters and SculIptors
of Israel, and has participated since then in all annual general
and group exhibitions of the Association.He has exhibited extensively
throughout the U.S., Israel, Europe, and South Africa.
