Marco Glaviano began his artistic career with a degree in architecture from the University of Palermo. While working as a set designer and playing in a jazz group, he began to experiment with photography. In 1967, Glaviano decided to devote himself to photography full time and moved to Rome and then Milan.
The photographer worked for eigh years, establishing his studio there. As he ganered more and more success, and his photographs began appearing in the best European fashion magazines, Glaviano decided he really needed to be in New York. He moved there in 1975 and set up his atelier. Glaviano's work has appeared in all the top fashion magazines, including on over 300 covers. Cindy Crawford chose him to be the exlusive photographer for all her swimsuit calendars. Glaviano has also published five books of his works: Models: Sittings 1978 -1988, 1988; Marco Glaviano: Photographs, 1989; Elles, 1999; Sirens 2003; La Palermo di Glavia. Glaviano occasionaly works in film and video as well. He continues to make lucious photographs, comprising work in fashion, portraits of musicians, and landscapes. His photography can be found in collections worldwide.
