| Ruth
Martha Kochta (1924 - 1979)
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 5, 1924, the daughter
of Henry and Anna Braun Evers, she attended local schools and
was the Valedictorian of the graduating class of 1942 at Newtown
High School in Queens.
Mrs. Kochta was an accomplished abstract painter and was well
known in the New York City art community. She owned and operated
her own gallery in Greenwich Village, Manhattan for many years.
She was a resident of Flushing/Queens for thirty years until
moving to Lenox in 1983. She also operated the Clark Whitney
Gallery at 25 Church Street until her retirement in 1997.
Ruth Martha Kochta, died October 2, 2003 at at Berkshire
Medical Center shortly after being stricken at home.
She is survived by her son: Alan J. Kochta of Flushing, New
York; and her daughter: Carol A. Young of Elmhurst, New York;
and her three grandchildren.
