Steve is a Mohawk born in and still lives in Quebec Province in a small village called Caughnawaga.
His pieces are in the several collections including: McCord Museum, Montreal / Notman Archives of McGill University / Deptartment of Indian Affairs, Ottawa / Museum of Quebec. He has exhibited his work in Montreal, Ottawa and New York and has sold worldwide including Australia, England and France to museums, corporate and private collections.
Steve McComber of Silver Bear is a master carver of stone and wood and has been honing his craft for the past 40 years. He works primarily with soapstone, alabaster, and basswood. His dynamic and elegant sculptures bring to life many aspects of Iroquois legends, traditions and culture as well as illustrate important lessons learned from his elders.
