NICOLAS (1950 - )
Yvon was born in Port-au-Prince on June 9,1950 from a relatively
modest family. He acquired his taste for the arts through frequent
visits in the Haitian capital's art galleries. By the age of
14, he had already produced a number of very colorful and attractive
canvases depicting such common occurrences such as market scenes,
"Rara" dancing groups, religious festivals, etc. By
his intricate use of colors, he drew the attention of numerous
art centers, in particular of the National Art Gallery and the French Institute's Art Gallery.
Yvon toured the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, St. Marten,
Curacoa, and St. Martin where his works were enthusiastically
received. Soon after, he was to leave Haiti to take residence
in participated in several exhibitions in Austin, Detroit, and
New York City.
Nicolas is a prolific painter, but yet cannot satisfy the demand
for his oil paintings, especially throughout the Caribbean islands.
