     "Frederick Bartholdi's magnificent tribute in New York's harbor has been powerful inspiration for artistic expression for the last 100 years. Discursive attempts to verbalize the interest in using such an American archetype fall so easily into sentimentality of two varieties; lofty corniness of base sarcasm. In such instances image takes advantage over words. I prefer to allow my painted image to express the complex private and collective feelings the statue invokes."
