Ed Ahlstrom

About the artist:

Ed Ahlstrom is a professor in the Art Department of Montgomery College where he teaches classes in landscape painting, portraiture, and watercolor. He received a B.F.A and M.F.A. from the School the Art Institute of Chicago. He also studied in the Department of Conservation of the Art Institute where he developed his knowledge of painting materials and methods. This expertise in the materials and technique of painting led to a series of commissions to make replicas of paintings for Christies, New York, E.V. Thaw & Co., New York and members of the Rockefeller family of New York, among others. Mr. Ahlstrom has received awards and grants for his works, including a Fulbright-Hays Grant to Belgium and the Netherlands and a Maryland Arts Council Grant for Painting. In 1998 Ed received a grant to paint landscapes in Slovenia sponsored by Slovenska Izeljenska Matica, Ljubljana, Slovenija. In May of 2004 he was invited to paint landscapes at the Forbes Chateau de Balleroy in Normandy, France. His work is in both public and private collections including The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Richmond, VA; Peat Marwick Main & Co., Washington Art Collection, Washington, D.C.; University of Texas, Austin Campus, Austin, Texas; The New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, New York; Forbes Collection, New York, NY. Mr. Ahlstrom has widely exhibited his painting including the following: Forbes Gallery, New York, Gallery K, Washington, DC, Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, VA, George Washington University, Washington, D.C., Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., Delaware Art Museum, Delaware, and the Baltimore Museum, Baltimore, Md His work was published in: Metzger, Phil.
