About the artist:
Lisette De Winne was born in Antwerp, Belgium and received an early art education in Europe, developing out of her Flemish tradition into an impressionistic painter. Her style is figurative with an abstract effect created through the colorful backgrounds of gracefully conceived portraits. She keeps her palette bright and warm and prefers not to blend her strong colors. Because of her powerful brush strokes and assured use of the palette knife, the over-all effect is brushy rather than smooth, a quality that the lithographs have faithfully reproduced.
Lisette De Winne has pursued her career in California since 1957, studying with several contemporary artists. She has developed her talents for evoking the inner warmth and feelings of her subjects in an expressive harmony of color, and capturing those private moments, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, that are part of the human experience.
In her large studio built into her home that looks out to the surrounding valleys and mountain ranges of Los Angeles, De Winne paints from morning till evening, dedicating herself to the plea for understanding that she finds in every face. She is intrigued by the character revelations that light up the faces of strangers in other lands.
Her paintings could be called narrative portraits because they carry us across cultural barriers into another way of life. "My aim is to kindle something within the viewer as we share an experience." Through the warmth of feeling and emotion created in her paintings, De Winne has more than accomplished her purpose.
A master in oils, De Winne's pieces range from portraits to modern semi-representational and non-representational art. Lisette De Winne has had many one-woman shows by leading galleries. Her work has been featured in national art magazines, and Royal Doulton, has chosen Ms. De Winne's work to be featured on a series of limited edition collection plates. Her original paintings have gained wide popularity and are now in exceptional demand.
With exquisite harmony of color and mood, De Winne paints spontaneously in her constant quest for precious human elements that give life its real meaning. As she travels, she is on a perpetual treasure hunt of the most rewarding kind.
Through her special talent in portraying human emotions that reach across geographical boundaries and ethnic groups, Lisette De Winne tries to bring the world closer together.
This talented woman celebrates the natural joy of living, captures the vibrancy, strength and hope of the world's children. . . . and continually evokes warm humanistic response, in all her work. Lisette De Winne epitomizes the creative artist the world loves.
