About the artist:
(From an exhibit catalog Nan Lurie : Oil Paintings published by Feigl Gallery in New York in 1947) Nan Lurie was born in New York in 1910. She studied under scholarship at the Art Students League and worked four years on the W.P.A. program. After a four years stay in Woodstock, she moved in 1940 to New York, where she has been living ever since. To be able to paint independently, she engaged during the last years in several part-time jobs, working at nights and at her days off. This gallery is proud to have a share in the discovery of Nan Lurie's very promising and lovable talent. From its belief in this artist's personality, it nourishes the hope that a steadily increasing number of followers may join it in the appreciation of her work.
