About the artist:

Shirley Roman was born on February 25, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Lewis and Florence Nadel. In May of 1939, Shirley and Seymour Roman eloped and "officially" married again in December of 1939. She had many successful careers as a printmaker and watercolorist and puppeteer. Her puppetry took her all over the country and Europe as a performer and teacher. Shirley lived most of her life in New York City, which she left in 1995, at the age of 76, to start a new life in Madison.
