Andrea Bowers has explored individual expression within society at large, including sports and rock fans as well as political activists. Her work offers a uniquely feminist critique, eliding dogma for dissent and exploding simple notions of radicality. Her artwork includes photorealist drawing, video
and sound installations and sculpture.

In 2002 she had solo exhibitions at Sara Meltzer Gallery in NY, Goldman Tevis in Los Angeles and Chouakri Brahms in Berlin. Last year she participated in
the following group exhibitions: Videodrome II, New Museum of
Contemporary Art, New York, NY; Remix: Contemporary Art & Pop at the
Tate Liverpool; New Heimat at the Frankfurt Kunstverein in Frankfurt,
Germany; L A On My Mind at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles
and Retake at the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein in Aachen, Germany. A
survey catalog accompanying her recent New York exhibition was
published with essays by Katy Siegel and Chris Kraus.

A recent review of her work was published in Artforum, January 2003. Her grants and awards include: 2003 City of Los Angeles (COLA) Fellowship Recipient for Visual Art; 1998 Nominee, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo per l’Arte Prize; and 1995-1996, WESTAF/NEA Regional Fellowship for Visual
Arts in sculpture. In 2003 her work will be exhibited at Barnsdall Art
Park, Los Angeles, EXTENDED PLAY: art remixing music, Brewster Art
Gallery, Contemporary Art Museum, New Plymouth, New Zealand;
Mengenburo / Brasilia 2003, ARTE 21, Escritorio de Arte e Projectos
