An excellent sculptural piece from Nigerian antiquity.
This terracotta sculpture is from the Nok, a village near the Jos Plateau region of Nigeria. It is made using coil pot techniques and local materials that, over time, have eroded in the elements to a rough texture. Each one of these sculptures is unique from each other, but all bear stylistic similarities to the wood carvings that have also been found in this region. This exceptional piece of Nigerian history comes with full documentation of its provenance.
