Alfred Sandford

About the artist:

Alfred Peter Frank Sandford was born in London, England on Nov. 12, 1929. He attended Enfield Technical College, Queensway, Enfield, and worked as a mechanical engineer. His duties consisted of drawing blueprints and designs. He left the UK in the early 1950’s to work for Boeing, in Toronto, finally settling in Flushing, NY by the later 1950’s. He began painting in the 1960’s and over the latter years of his life attended classes at The New School and Art Students League in New York. Upon his retirement, he devoted much time to his art, painting on his travels in addition to documenting the world in which he lived. Mr. Sandford was known to comment that his retirement years, immersed in his art, were very happy ones. He exhibited a painting style that was colorful and passionate with a great deal of energy. His work spans the gamut, including landscapes, still-life, figurative, and non-representational paintings.
