Rendered in a long, horizontal line, Bev Doolittle's depiction of a white fur trader on horseback galloping through a forest of birch trees is captivating and complex.
Comprising only the right third of the composition, the man and his two horses rush through the dense forest, looking back nervously as he rushes forward. Shown to be sacred to the Native Americans, this thick woodland of only birch trees appears formidible and mysterious, understandably unnerving the trader. With original folder and information sheet.
