About The Artist: Bruce Carter

From the moment he first put knife and chisel to block and re-created images of war, Bruce Carter has defended his woodcut prints to those who would much rather forget the brutal, bloody past. Carter was drafted in 1952 into the army and assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea. "In art school, they emphasized your own perception," he said. About The Medium: Woodcut

A relief process in which the image is cut in a block of wood with tools such as knives, goughers or chisels. The image is inked with a roller, paper is applied to the surface and the back is then rubbed by hand or with a rubbing tool, transferring the image to the paper.
