Born: 1922 in Palisade New Jersey Studied: Cooper Union; Ecole des Beux Arts, Fountianbleau, France Awards: Fullbright Grant; Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant; Purchase Awards, Brooklyn museum, Library of Congress. Postitions; The New School, Pratt Institute and Pratt Graphics Center. Clare Romano, a native of Fort Lee, formerly resided on Davison Place in Englewood, where she and husband John Ross, also a printmaker, kept separate studios. They collaborated on their art and on writing “The Complete Printmaker,” a definitive textbook first published in 1972 and since revised. During her years in Englewood, New Jersey. Ms. Romano was a highly visible participant in the region’s art scene and, with her husband, helped found the Art Center of Northern New Jersey. Her work was shown at the Englewood Public Library, Montclair Art Museum, Fairleigh Dickinson University and elsewhere.
