David Hamilton was a British photographer and film director best known for his photography of young women and girls.

In addition to he composed photographs of flowers, men, landscapes, farm animals, pigeons, and still lifes of fresh fruit. Like this Roses in Pitcher, many of his photographs look like oil paintings from a forgotten time. The photo is hand-signed in ink lower right.

David Hamilton's unique view of the world began forming early. World War II sent him to the country side as a young man. It was here that the dirt and hard edge of London was replaced with the lovely countryside of Dorset (of Thomas Hardy fame). About The Medium: Gelatin Silver Print

The most common photographic printing process, introduced in the 1880s. These prints are made with silver halides suspended in a layer of gelatin on fibre based paper. They are developed using the three-bath chemistry of developer, stop, and fixer, and can be chemically toned to alter the finished look of the print.
