Gérard Lecomte Rard

French (1940–2012)

About the artist:

Gérard Lecomte was born in Nice in 1940 and came to Saarland at the age of ten. Even as a child, he quickly realized that he had an extraordinary artistic talent. Since he was not allowed to be "just" an artist at home, he first had to have a "decent job". After school in Saarbrücken at the Maréchal Ney High School, he went to Thionville and did an apprenticeship as a carpenter and sculptor. He later used this knowledge to make his own frames and sculptures. To refine his artistic talent, he went to the Art Academy Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. He also got that Diplôme national de sculpture of the Beaux Arts de Paris and the Médaille d'Argent de la Ville de Paris "Peinture". With this in mind, he went to Saint Tropez, where he taught for three years at an art school. The life there was for him not satisfactory, although he was already established as a painter and artist. PARIS fascinated him. That was his city! For 14 years he taught students in Paris at an art school, his knowledge. At the age of 40, he decided to become a freelance artist without being tied to a regulated profession. Inspired by the pulsating life in Paris, Rard began to perfect himself artistically. Another source of inspiration was the Asian culture that had always fascinated him. He acquired the black belt in martial arts Kung Fu and worked intensively with the teaching of Zen. After a few years, he was consecrated to the Zen priest. The confrontation with this foreign culture is also reflected in his art.
