about The Emigrants

Wheeling down the dusty dirt road of a mountain pass, the family in the overed wagon heads West to create a better life for themselves and their children.

Skinny and tired, the horses and dog reflect the wellbeing of their owners as well, as the trek West was fraught with hunger and danger.

About The Artist: Harvey W. Johnson

Harvey William Johnson came by his artistic talent naturally. His father was a noted sculptor, and his mother was an accomplished painter. Following in their footsteps, after World War II, Johnson studied at the Art Students League in New York City. He worked for many advertising studios and as an illustrator (often of frontier life) for many pulp magazines. For nineteen years, he was an instructor at the Famous Artists School in Connecticut...

About The Medium: Lithograph

A print created using flat stones or metal plates. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
