about Race Day

Riding together toward the racetrack, each participating jockey in the upcoming race dons his silks and equipment as he gently leads his horse to the race.

While some jockeys appear confident and calm, others appear more nervous and glance at eachother as they prepare for the ultimate showdown.

About The Artist: Henry Koehler

A sporting artist who lives in Southampton, New York, Henry Koehler was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Yale University, and shortly after that had illustrations published by "The New Yorker", "Town and Country", and "Sports Illustrated". His first exhibition was in 1961, and since then has exhibited in over 60 venues in London, Paris, Dublin, Johannesburg and the United States. His works are in the collections of the National...

The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
