Shadows covering the underbrush of the surrounding woods, James Feriola's use of watercolor in this work creates a dimensional, realistic scene not as a result of attention to detail but due to his masterful manipulation of light. On the other side of this fall scene, the artist has rendered the incomplete portrait of an elderly woman flipping through a book. Her hair pulled back and her apron tied around her collared dress, the woman's grace is ieghtened by her agile hands and the lovely pot of flowers beside her.
