About The Artist: John Silk Deckard

John Silk Deckard was born in Erie in 1940, and studied locally with renowned painter and teacher Joseph Plavcan. He won a National Scholastic scholarship to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and later attended Edinboro State College and Carnegie-Mellon University. Since the mid-Sixties his works have been exhibited in galleries across America and in Europe. He died in Erie on June 7, 1994 at the age of 55. In 1965 Deckard was selected by...

About The Medium: Lithograph

A print created using flat stones or metal plates. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
