About The Artist: John Striebel

Born in Bertrand, Michigan, September 1891, John Striebel was raised in South Bend, Indiana. By age fourteen he was a political cartoonist for the South Bend Daily News, and the income from this job he used for tuition at the University of Notre Dame. He then went to Chicago and became an advertising illustrator for the "Chicago Tribune". His first comic strip, 'Pantomime' was a feature for eight years, after which Striebel illustrated 'The...
