About The Artist: Leo Bates

Leo Bates was born in Pittsburgh Pa., 1944. He studed at the Carnegie Mellon Universty. Pittsburgh. 1962 - 1966 and graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting. He was a special student at Yale Universty Summer SchooL, Norfolk, Conn. 1965 in 1968 he moved to New York City where The now paints. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
