Viewed from behind a series of plants, this print of an expansive, sandy beach leading up to the ocean in the distance is a unique example of Olga Poloukhine's work featuring beach scenes and seascapes.

Rather than show the water directly, the artist has chosen instead to depict the long sandy beach that nearly eclipses the ocean.

About The Artist: Olga Poloukhine

Born in Paris, France, of Russian emigre parents, Olga Poloukhine came to America after World War II. Upon graduating from High School, she received a BA from Douglass College, Rutgers, with a High Honors paper on "The Russian Icon", and continued at Columbia Teachers College, earning an MA in Art Education. After several years of teaching in public schools Ms. Poloukhine began focusing on her own work, first devoting herself almost entirely to...

About The Medium: Aquatint

An etching process in which tone is created by treating a plate with fine particles of acid resistant material (like powder resin) and then placing the plate in an acid bath. The acid bites into the plate between the grains of resin and when printed, the mass of tiny spots produces a textured area with tonal effects similar to watercolor wash.
