Peter Keefer

American (1933)

About the artist:

The Graphic Design of Peter Keefer depict the land configurations and canyon colors of the southeast. Born in 1933, Keefer received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1958. His interest in printmaking developed shortly afterward, and he continued his training with graduate students at California State University at Northridge where he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Printmaking in 1970. During the next ten years he developed the highly identifiable style which has remained characteristic of his work: earth colors modulated against harsher tones which charge his images with a sense of time and place. Peter Keefer lives and works in Missoula. His solo exhibition, Images of the Great War, was at MAM in 2010. He received a BFA from the California College of Arts & Crafts, Oakland, CA and an MA in printmaking from Cal State Northridge, Northridge, CA. He states, “Expressing my thoughts and impressions about the instigators and participants in this war has been a long and changing process, starting in 1981 when I first read about 19th century European history from the original sources rather than textbooks”.
