Pierre Spori

Swiss (1923–1989)

About the artist:

Pierre Spori, born on October 3, 1923 in Le Locle and died on March 12, 1989 in Châtel-Saint-Denis, was a Swiss painter, ceramist, and designer.

Born in Le Locle in 1923, Pierre Spori moved to the heights of Lausanne, then later to Épalinges.

Pierre Spori used to spend a lot of time in train station buffets and enjoyed drawing the customers sitting around him; he also sometimes paid for drinks in cafes and restaurants by offering a drawing made from life. A painter, draftsman, and ceramist, he also created stained glass windows.

His works are reminiscent of the works of Egon Schiele or Louis Soutter. Although he produced many portraits, his favorite subjects were clowns with sad faces and heads of Christ.

He died at the Saint-Joseph home in Châtel-Saint-Denis on March 12, 1989.
