about Sun Canyon (Wilt Chamberlain)

With the sun shining through the canyon, the ragged cliffs overlook the river running below.

Splashing water alludes to the figure to the lower left, running through the water as an emblem of physical activity. This work was created as a commemoration of the fifteenth anniversary of the Special Olympics. Hand signed by Wilt Chamberlain and Robert Peak Artist. Each example is a nineteen color lithograph on papier dÕArches, pencil signed by the artist and the athlete. The edition is limited to three hundred numbered impressions and fifty numbered artist proofs. Thirty impressions with Roman numerals are reserved for the artist and publisher. The edition was pulled at Atelier Ettinger in New York during nineteen hundred and eighty three. Each example carries the embossed seal of Atelier Ettinger. Issued to commemorate the Fifteenth Anniversary Year of the Special Olympics

The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
