About The Artist: Rowena Fruth

PHOTOGRAPHER/ CRITIC/ LECTURER/ SALON JUDGE Born in Fostoria, Ohio on June 13th, 1896. She started out as a concert pianist. In time, though, her fingers wandered from the black and white keys on the piano to the black and white of photography. The transition was easy for Rowena Fruth, who fervently sought out the similarities between the two arts. About The Medium: Gelatin Silver Print

The most common photographic printing process, introduced in the 1880s. These prints are made with silver halides suspended in a layer of gelatin on fibre based paper. They are developed using the three-bath chemistry of developer, stop, and fixer, and can be chemically toned to alter the finished look of the print.
