about American Indian Theme V (C. 164)

Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997), created the series American Indian Theme during a period when he worked in Manhattan and Southampton.

He spent time near the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, on the eastern end of Long Island. He combined his pop art style with Native American motifs and imagery to create this unique style of print.

About The Medium: Woodcut

A relief process in which the image is cut in a block of wood with tools such as knives, goughers or chisels. The image is inked with a roller, paper is applied to the surface and the back is then rubbed by hand or with a rubbing tool, transferring the image to the paper.
