about Oh for a Horse

Facing one another, the two vehicles in this desert landscape are surrounded by men in suits and jackets who survey the potential damage done to both vehicles, either in a crash, due to the harsh landscape, or just from engine troubles.

While the men at the foreground struggle to fix the mechanical issue, the men on horseback appear carefree due to their reliance on less advanced travel methods.

About The Artist: Roy Purcell

Roy Purcell has lived and worked as an artist in Las Vegas since 1970 and has created a large body of work in various media. While known throughout the southwest for his etchings, he has mastered watercolor, oil, pastel, ink, acrylic and pencil to express the world around him. About The Medium: Etching

The printing process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio (incised) in the metal. In traditional pure etching, a metal (usually copper, zinc or steel) plate is covered with a waxy ground which is resistant to acid. The artist then scratches off the ground with a pointed etching needle where they want a line to appear in the finished piece, exposing the bare metal. The plate is then put through a high-pressure printing press together with a sheet of paper (often moistened to soften it). The paper picks up the ink from the etched lines, making a print.
