Galloping full speed up a rocky hill, the horse and cowboy in this Shannon Stirnweis print appear rugged and hardy as they clamber up a steep and unforgiving landscape.

Turning back to look behind him, the cowboy leans forward to retain his balance and withstand the motion of the horse without losing firm grip of the saddle.

About The Artist: Shannon Stirnweis

In 1931 Shannon Stirnweis was born in the city Portland, Oregon when the squeeze of the Great Depression was just beginning to be felt. Growing up Shannon was an active participant in the sports of his community up into High School where he competed in the Golden Gloves of boxing, as a starting guard on his high school's football, and placed third in the shot put of all city track meet. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils.
