Sitting on a rock, a young Native American woman rests her elbows against her knees as she looks out over the plains filled with wild grasses.

Beyond her, a Native American man in an ornately feathered headdress walks on horseback toward the direction of the woman. Seemingly watching the sunset, the two figures represent the spirituality of the Native American nations who inhabited the plains regions of the American West.

About The Artist: Shannon Stirnweis

In 1931 Shannon Stirnweis was born in the city Portland, Oregon when the squeeze of the Great Depression was just beginning to be felt. Growing up Shannon was an active participant in the sports of his community up into High School where he competed in the Golden Gloves of boxing, as a starting guard on his high school's football, and placed third in the shot put of all city track meet. About The Medium: Lithograph

A print created using flat stones or metal plates. The artist creates a lithograph by drawing an image directly onto the printing element using materials like lithograph crayons or special grease pencils. After this, the drawing is transferred from the plate to the paper in multiples. A lithograph will not have dots when examined with a magnifying glass.
