About the artist:

Born in Athens, Greece, 1921. Receiving his education at the E.O.N. Art School, he was awarded first prize for the Attica Messagion Competition. His father discouraged his pursuit of art and prevailed upon Stephanos to study economics at the University of Athens where he received his B.A. Never forsaking his art he continued his studies followed by three successful exhibitions in Athens, Salonica, and Pireaus. Recognized by the press his reviews in 'Provoli' reported "Sideris is an artist who will achieve great heights." In 1961 an exhibition at the Gallery of Art in Athens earned him praise from renowned art critic, Constantopolous who claimed Sideris destined for success In 1963 following acclaimed exhibitions in Italy he was shown at Koroplin in Athens where Kessaris, art critic for Iolocos wrote, "in the work of Stephanos Sideris, artists may see what can be achieved by a true artist when he joins his soul to his talent. " He continued exhibiting his artwork in competitions all over Greece and was met with much enthusiasm from the public. However, after the Military Junta of 1967, he was told he could either be a banker or an artist, not both! His love of painting led him to leave the bank and pursue a career in art. In 1969, he packed up his family along with 240 paintings and came to the United States to fulfill his American dream. And that he did. Sideris passed away in 2014 in Readington Township, New Jersey.
