About the artist:
A contemporary Australian printmaker and painter of landscapes, figure studies and still lifes, David Preston studied art at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney, and under such teachers as Brett Whitely, John Olsen and Charles Blackman. He began exhibiting his art in 1974 and since that time he has exhibited in many countries in Asia, Europe and North America. His paintings and prints have been featured on the covers of such diverse publications as the 'New York Gallery Guide', 'The Geneva Tribune', 'Figaro', Paris, and the 'Sydney Morning Herald'. David Preston is also the founder of the Etcher's Press. The artist currently lives in New South Wales.
David Preston is equally well known for both his paintings and prints. In the latter category his very large linocuts deserve special mention. He draws his inspiration from classic Japanese woodcuts, where space is deliberately flattened in order to draw our eyes to the natural harmonies of form and color.
