About the artist:

Donald Gerola studied Physics at The University of Dayton, Ohio. The year 1974 was pivotal in opening a doorway to an artistic path – his heartbeat and life commitment defined! After several years creating graphic super murals in New York City, he pioneered a signature sand fresco technique on canvas and board. In 1980 Don began to incorporate his engineering background by completing a monumental water fountain -- computer controlled with laser beams and jets of flaming gas. Then came two twenty-five foot mobiles that were the centerpieces of the Washington, D.C. and New York International Art Expos. Gerola’s Water Street Sculpture Garden, in Milford, PA, was the next chapter in his creative development. This indoor and outdoor gallery was a showplace of modern paintings, steel sculpture, and water systems. The Garden remained open for fourteen years. In 2006, Donald’s heart brought him to Rhode Island. Here he is fabricating both intimate and monumental kinetic wind sculptures. His dream is to chase the wind, probe the laws of gravity, and impact the world of sculpture.
