Leandro Velasco

Colombian (1933)

About the artist:

Leando Velasco was born in Cali, Colombia in 1933. "I was born in Columbia, South America and I arrived in New York City on November 23, 1963, the same day President Kennedy was assassinated. My dream was to be a working artist and live off the proceeds from my paintings. It was very difficult to be accepted, so I took a job designing stained glass windows, mosaics and sculptures and I painted in my personal time. Now, for many years, I am able to concentrate totally on my painting. I live on a farm in upstate New York and my studio is in a converted barn, along with my gallery. It is a great space to exhibit my paintings to prospective buyers. I have exhibited in this country and overseas, with shows in Paris, London, Venice, Belgium, Japan, and South America. My paintings always have a touch of humor." - Leandro Velasco EXHIBTIONS AND AWARDS: Galleria Spazio Aperto, Bienale Venezia , Italy - 2005 Galeria de Arte Creta, Cali, Colombia – 1997 Council of the Arts Exhibition, Cooperstown , New York , USA – 1997 Marvin Maukman Fine Art, Aventura , Florida , USA – 1996 Dublin-Kitzen Fine Art, Coral Gables , Florida , USA –1996 Pro Arte Gallery, Cali , Colombia – 1995 Casa Solano Gallery, Bogota , Colombia – 1995 Richard Kubiak Gallery, Catskills Council of the Arts, Oneonta , New York – 1994 Galera de Arte Creta, Cali, Colombia – 1994 Public Television Art Auction, Binghampton , New York (First Prize) – 1993 Chenango County Council of the Arts, Norwich , New York – 1992 Pacifica Yokohama Exhibition Hall – 1992 Tokio , Japan , Art Expo – 1992 Ghent Lineart Internationale, Ghent , Belgium – 1991 Fine Arts Gallery, Antwerpen , Belgium – 1991 Upstart Gallery, Chicago – 1990 Storrington Fine Art Studios, Storrington, West Sussex, England – 1989 Artefino, Charlotte , North Carolina – 1989 Edward Weston Graphics, Northridge , California – 1988-89 Matizes Gallery, Long Island , New York – 1987-88 Gallery Dos, New York , New York – 1986-87-88 Rosenbaum Fine Arts, Ft.
