About the artist:

William Fares was born in 1942 in Compton, California, USA. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute starting in 1965, where he received his bachelor's and later master's degree in 1971. According to American critic Saul Ostrow, Fares belongs to a generation of artists from the 1970s in New York who sought ways to expand consciousness through abstraction. Fares has participated in group exhibitions, including the 1971 exhibition at the John Bergreuen Gallery in San Francisco, California, where he was invited to participate alongside names like Jasper Johns, Brice Marden, and Ellsworth Kelly, among others. From 1972 to 1980, he participated in exhibitions in spaces such as the National Collection of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Santa Barbara, California, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, the Center for the Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum in New York, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, the Stanford Museum, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, as well as in university museums such as the Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, and the Grey Art Gallery of New York University. To date, he has had more than twenty solo exhibitions in the United States at renowned galleries such as Rosa Esman, Greenhald, and Andre Zarre in New York, and in Europe at the John Doyle Gallery and the Palluel Gallery in Paris, France. In Mexico, has held exhibitions at the El Nigromante Cultural Center of the National Institute of Fine Arts in San Miguel de Allende in 2014, with the State Culture Institute of Guanajuato in 2019, at the Museum of the City of Querétaro from 2021 to 2022 and Muse de Arte Abstracto, Manuel Felguerez, Zacatecas in 2023 He is part of international collections, both public and private, including the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Neuberger Museum, the State University of New York, and the Muhlenberg Center for the Arts, to name a few. In 2008, he decided to establish his studio and residence in the city of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, dedicating his time to the renewal of his artistic language and plastic experimentation, incorporating new materials and experimenting with them.
